Rangoli is treated as an sacred art which is created on the floors at the entrance of the house using dry flour, coloured sand etc. It is a belief that drawing rangoli brings good luck (Lakshmi) in the house. Designs are passed from one generation to the next, keeping both the art form and the tradition alive.
